ABOUT

Irish & Scots Folk Band playing traditional and contemporary songs & tunes

Biography

Formed in 2011

[EN]
The group's current program focuses on songs, jigs and reels, flings, waltzes, strathspeys, slow airs and much more from the Celtic regions of the world, including Scotland, Ireland, Nova Scotia, French Canada, Brittany and Spain, but also from the Balkans and Scandinavia. The trio with Thomas Jakob Schneider (cittern, tin whistles, vocals, Celtic guitar, bombarde and scheitholt), Jessica Hardenberger (Irish harp, accordion and vocals) and Veit Josef Schneider (fiddle, bodhrán,vocals, banjo and psaltery) merges old and new, traditional and newly composed songs into what is commonly called “Celtic Folk”. On the cittern (Irish bouzouki), fiddle, banjo, guitars, tin whistles, bombarde, bodhrán, harp, psaltery and scheitholt the three experienced folk musicians, also known from the groups "Father O' Flynn," "Ae Nicht" and "Fluttry Flings," sympathetically bring traditional and contemporary folk music from their program "Scots & Irish Contemporary and Traditional Tunes & Songs" closer together and also invite you to sing along with them with daring liltings and mouthmusic. Needle & Sword have been performing together since 2011 and are touring the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany together. The Austrian and German-American musicians have been addicted to Celtic music since their childhood. Their latest CD "The Kitchen Sessions", recorded at the Dremmener Folk Mühle, was released in 2016.

[DE]
